Melanoma

 

Nodular:          Most malignant type

                        Usually convex

                        Bleeds, ulcerates

                        Well defined edges

 

Lentigo maligna:         Least malignant

                                    Commoner in elderly

                                    Irregular brown patch, commonly over cheek/face

                                    Develops discrete tumour nodules or darkening of one area

                                   

Amelanotic:    Non-pigmented

 

Acral-lentigous:           Common in extremities, palms/soles

                                    Mostly dark-skinned and Japanese patients

 

Superficial spreading: In areas of intermittent sun exposure

 

Bowen’s:         Often presents as red scaly patch of skin

                        Can be anywhere on the body

 

Chloasma:       Increasing dark pigmentation of skin
